Mark Parsons is a technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) partner with a practice spanning across the Asia-Pacific region. His practice covers the full range of commercial and regulatory work in TMT and in other business sectors that depend on technology, including financial services, retail and life sciences.
Mark is one of Asia-Pacific region's leading legal advisors on data protection and cyber security regulations, advising on regulatory requirements applicable to new products and services, data sharing arrangements and technology service arrangements. He also regularly advises in relation to regulatory enquiries and investigations and co-ordinates advice across the Asia-Pacific region in relation to data breach notification obligations and remediation efforts.
Mark is serving his third term as a member of the Hong Kong Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data's Standing Committee on Technological Developments and serves as the Hong Kong rapporteur to the Asia Business Law Institute’s initiatives relating to cross-border data transfers in the Asia-Pacific region. He regularly speaks and writes on data protection topics.
In addition to holding a Juris Doctor (JD) from the University of Toronto, Mark has a Bachelor of Applied Science in engineering from the University of Toronto, where he specialized in computer simulation and process design.
Mark is qualified as a solicitor in Hong Kong, England and Wales, a barrister and solicitor in Ontario, Canada and a registered foreign lawyer in Singapore.
